Next get together

Hopefully, some of you saw the announcement for our next get together in the bulletin on Sunday. I decided we should get together once before summer. We will meet this Saturday from 10am-12pm at the playground. Water will be provided. Let me know if you are going to try and make it bluefrilingos@juno.com. As many of us have children older than the age range envisioned for this group, I would love to have discussion on how we should move forward. I have always thought that the Little Saints Foyer Group was an outreach to new families with young children that might not be ready for the choirs or Sunday School. Perhaps doing something more regularly would encourage these newcomers to attend. If you would be interested in discussing this with me sometime this summer send me an email.

Also, there is an opportunity this weekend to help out with the youth group that is very low impact. Father Tim Black is opening the attic for youth to study in and he needs some warm bodies to make sure everything goes smoothly or volunteers to bring items. This is not something you can do with your kids, but it is a good chance to get some quiet time in a really nice environment. We haven't offered this before so we are unsure of turnout. The rest of this post is the email from Tim so you can learn how to sign up.

OPEN ATTIC- A QUIET, COMFORTABLE, SAFE AND SUPPORTED PLACE FOR STUDY-- DON'T GO TO PANERA OR STARBUCK'S-- COME TO THE ATTIC AT ALL SAINTS'!

We have a great opportunity for ministry to God's Church this weekend as our students are preparing for final exams.

During exam weekends in any coffee house or cafe' you will see groups of students sitting around tables working on projects, conducting study groups or reading. I also know that these places get crowded, do not always have great wifi or printers, and cost money to inhabit. We want to improve upon the "third place" for our students.

So, Friday, from 5-9 PM, Saturday, from 10-6:00 (originally it was going to be 10-9:00 but we have an event Saturday night for Rite 13) and Sunday from 12:30-6:00the Attic will be open for folks who want to come, camp out, and study.

1)   Snacks and Drinks:. Wholesome is good: pre-made sandwiches (without condiments), nuts, granola bars, power bars, bagels (we have a TON of cream cheese), yogurt, peanut butter crackers, cheese and crackers, some sweets (chocolate is always nice)
DRINKS: We do not need bottled water as we have good filtered water available in the Attic. Juice, fizzy water, milk, Keurig cups for hot chocolate or tea (and some coffee) would be helpful.

SIGN UP HERE TO BRING FOOD or DRINKS .
You can drop stuff off any time on Thursday between 9-4:00 in The Attic or Friday after 4:30. (Or, just call me at 404-275-2665 to let me know when you can bring it by).

2)   Volunteers/Chaperones: Parents are invited to take a 3-hour shift in The Attic as a volunteer. Easy duty-- bring a book-- you will just need to hang out, keep order and put out snacks with some regularity in the kitchen. SIGN UP HERE to VOLUNTEER.

3)   Materials: We could use some ink cartridges for our printer. We are hoping it gets put to good use! (It uses Epson cartridges: click here for the specs)
We will need some more black ink). We could also use printer paper and pencils and pens.

4)   Spread the Word: Invite friends from your school communities to take advantage of this wonderful opportunity for a "third place" (not school, not home) to study. Forward this email to your friends...

Rules... Guidelines... Expectations...

1)   Supervision: Adult volunteers will ensure  that the environment stays quiet and focused. We will have study rooms available for folks who need to talk to one another or do projects. We will have a sign-in and sign out. Students who drive themselves will be able to come and go-- students who are dropped off will not be allowed to leave without parental permission. Students who do not seem to want to study will be asked to leave...

2)   Support: We will provide support for them in the way of snacks, drinks and a comfortable space. (While I am there, if it does not violate their school's academic policy, I will also be happy to proofread papers... - Tim)

3)   Sabbath (Breaks): On every other half-hour, we will take short breaks in "the big room" for some activity. (The other half of the room will still be quiet).

4)   Prayer: We are also going to have an area of "the big room" set aside for prayer and meditation with prayer books, bibles, candles and comfy chairs.

"Open Attic" is an experiment in ministry to our young people. If you have further thoughts or inspiration about how you can contribute, I invite your conversation.

Peace

Tim

Beltline this Saturday

I hope everyone is doing well. We are still planning on meeting up at the Beltline on Saturday. Let's say 11am if you can make it at the Old Fourth Ward skate park . Bring your strollers. Send us an email if you think you are going to be there and haven't contacted us yet: bluefrilingos@juno.com.

Little Saints Foyer Group on the Beltline

We are going a little beyond the campus this time with a foyer group meeting along the Beltline on the morning of November 9, 2013 at 10AM. Exact location to be determined, but hopefully it will be a good crowd. I will try to get this in the bulletin, but please spread the word.

It's been too long. . .

Just a quick note to say that we are meeting up on May 25 from 10am to 12pm at the Pritchett Center playground at All Saints. I know it is Memorial Day weekend, but I thought if anybody was in town in might be nice to get together on Saturday morning. There will be a Holy Baptism seminar taking place in the sanctuary that same morning, and it is always nice for the families of the about to be newly baptized to see that there are many families like their own at All Saints. If you are planning on attending send us an email at bluefrilingos@juno.com. Please bring snacks for your family if you like.

I think a place at All Saints for young families to get to know one another is important. As some of the families who have been around for a while have children who are getting older, I don't want to drop the ball and leave a void that needs to be filled in a few years. The addition of Monday Morning Moms by Noelle in the last few years along with a the development of the Little Saints Church and Sunday School program by Chuck has made All Saints a great place for us and our young children and we may be able to develop even more resources with a little bit more involvement. I am willing to continue to reach out to the families of the newly baptized, but would like a few others to coordinate get-togethers and other events. I would love for at least one person who regularly attends Monday Morning Moms to be involved as well.  Send me an email if you are interested. Most of this work will be done online, but we may want to meet for dinner in person at some point this summer.

Thanks,

Timothy Frilingos

Dear all,

I hope you are having a wonderful fall. Louisa Merchant, the refugee ministry coordinator at All Saints, wanted me to share with you the following opportunity to serve the refugee ministry at All Saints:

We would like to take our 23 tutoring students as well as our new family, the Thangs, to the zoo on Nov. 17 but we will need a lot of help to make this happen in the form of transportation, chaperones and donated tickets. We are also looking for tutors for some of our 23 students. If you can give time two Saturdays a month, call Louisa to take part in this wonderful opportunity. Please contact Louisa Merchant at louisam@allsaintsatlanta.org or 404-403-5908 for more information, to donate or to volunteer. Thank you!

She told me that the time from on this would be 10:30AM pickup in Clarkston and leaving the zoo at 2:00PM. We have a family zoo membership that allows for up to four children, so we are going to try and help out on this one.  Please contact Louisa by email or phone if you can help. For some of you Grant Park residents, you may be able to simply show up with your membership card and help get the students in the Zoo.

Thanks,

Timothy Frilingos

Saturday Reminder

This is just a reminder that we are meeting this Saturday at All Saints from 10AM-12PM. No agenda, just a time to get together and let the kids play. Bring snacks for your family if you would like. I am looking forward to seeing a lot of new faces.

It is also the Saturday before Holy Baptism and it will be nice for the parents who are coming for the orientation see us in the playground. Also, on Sunday don't be shy about introducing yourself to one of the families of the newly baptized after the service.
